The Papillon Club of America (PCA),
like many other breed clubs, holds a national specialty every year.
Papillon fanciers meet to compete with their dogs in Conformation,
Obedience and Agility as well as hold club meetings, seminars and in
general, celebrate the Papillon. We at Loteki Papillons have a long
history at the PCA National Specialty as you can see below.

Specialty Memories
My first
National was held in Huntsville, Alabama. Terry and I arranged
for Stephanie and Danielle to have someone look after them
and off we went. It was so exciting! We were going to meet
the people that I had only read about, written to and talked with
on the telephone and admired. I could hardly wait. One of
the people that I considered an early mentor told me, "Don't
waste your time and money going to the National; They are
always fixed." I chose to ignore this advice and go. I went
to meet people, look at dogs and be immersed in Papillondom.
To this day, the excitement and anticipation remain the
same. I look forward to the National from year to year. I
meet old friends, make new ones, and have several days of
nothing but Papillons and Papillon events!
Over the years, I've missed only one National. It has always
been my belief that if I were going to be involved in this breed then
the National should be a priority.
When I return home from one National,
I mark the next year's on the calendar in INK! When I am
out shopping, I shop for things with an eye on the upcoming
National. I make plans with friends and look forward to the
event for months and months. I've never been sorry that I
took the time off of work, many times unpaid leave, and
traveled the miles to go to a National. I may or may not
have brought home a win, but I always was happy to bring
home the dog(s) I took, and thrilled to have more memories
of people, places and Papillons.
In my mind, there is another reason to call the National a
"specialty". Not only is it is a dog show that is
only for
one breed, but also, it always holds something "special" for
those who attend and participate.
The National is made up of many late, late nights and early mornings.
There are lots of laughs and even some tears but most of all,
Papillons, Papillons and more Papillons... and always, something to
learn.
